Rigs From The Past
T1154 Brought this set home from scrapyard in 1970 having little idea of the set with no power supply etc so I stripped it down wonderful ceramic resisters inside you could run a KW dummy load into.
R1155 Got in 1971 from junk shop in Fleetwood near home poor condition and lack of power supply little was done.
R1132 Another set got from above lack of circuit and power supply at time did not get it on the air.
19 Set Got this set in good condition from Johns Radio in Bradford in 1968 they had produced a mains power supply and was good to go with antenna variometer. This was a mk3 with 400mhz superegenitive(argh) section fitted but I had fun changing its coil to lower vhf frequencies.
WS38 From a surplus scrapyard in 1970 this set worked ok but needed ht batterys too costley.
BC348 Most stable set got about 1978 from a Blackpool junk shop which only opened only in the evenings, big noisy power supply was found and worked fine, this was passed on to a good friend of mine as he persuaded me to take the RAE exam with him in 1984 for my ham radio licence.
R107 This was found in a field being used as a stepping stone over a style or fence back in 1967.After fitting two new EF94 valves and a S meter this worked perfect, frequency coverage was up to 22mhz so i made a simple 30mhz solid state converter, first station received was New Zealand. These sets used to drift all over the place not like rigs of todays standards.
R1392 This was one of the best sets i had purchased from Blackpool scrapyard 1975, this was in air force blue but lucky to find matching mains power supply in army green. This set had two unusual brass tuning knobs both marked 108mhz too 150mhz tune one to tune and other to peak.
